Jack Caught His First Pike
On Thursday 2nd January 2025, we visited Stanton Fishing Club waters on a cold morning to try catching a few pike.
We got down to the pond around 9:30 and were fishing by 10ish, after initially forgetting my dead baits and having to go home to fetch them! We got all our gear set up and headed round to Peg 6 on Privates Pond to try our luck.
It was a bitter -1 degrees, very cold but we were determined to catch Jack’s first pike.
After maybe an hour we missed two bites, one on the float rod and one on the ledger rod, not to be disheartened we persevered and were rewarded by a lovely 5-6 lbs jack pike, Jack reeled it in and landed the fist himself, I helped with netting it. As you can see from the video and photographs, he was very happy. He had made a new years resolution to catch his first pike, and he managed to achieve that on the 2nd day of the new year!!
An hour later, maybe around 12:30 in the afternoon, the float rod went off again and I managed a pike of around 8-9lbs. All in all a great day’s fishing!
Both fish fell to the tail end of a Herring, the only bait we could get from Morrisons.
